Working Platform Design and Inspection

This report is usually required when a mobile crane or a piling rig is established within a public area or construction site. This report is prepared using available field data, field inspection, onsite testing and laboratory testing of the samples collected from the site.

The purpose of this report is to assess the existing ground conditions and provide a safe working area. Depending on the field assessment outcome a working platform design may be required.

Ground supported working platforms are critical for heavy equipment stability, and modern civil works equipment such as piling rigs, mobile cranes, excavators etc. are becoming heavier with higher centres of gravity to cater complex building and infrastructure projects. Every incident occurring and every “near miss” involving unsafe working platforms is a potential fatality.

The responsibility for the design, construction, maintenance and repair of a working platform should be taken by the organisation that has continuous control of all of the project activities or civil works.

The safety of the construction site requires that the working platform has been properly designed, constructed in accordance with the design, and will be adequately maintained to ensure that the integrity of the platform is likewise maintained. It is important that the working platform is constructed in accordance with the design requirements and performance of the working platform is not affected due to adverse weather conditions.
